I made these this year and they were a huge hit at my Halloween party! Not only were they easy to shape, but everyone loved them for the taste! You can do it with or without the blood, but either way, they'll look and taste great.
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 tsp almon extract
1 tsp vanilla
2 2/3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salk
3/4 cup almonds, slivered (make sure to get the thickest slivers you can find because otherwise they break way too easily)
1 tube red decorator gel (optional)
In a bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Beat in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes. Work with small amounts of dough at a time and keep the rest refrigerated. Roll a good sized ball of dough into finger shape for each cookie. Press almond firmly into one end for nail. Squeeze in center to create knuckle shape. Using a knife, make slashes in several places to form knuckles.
Place on lightly greased baking sheets; bake at 325F oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden. Let cool for 3 minutes. Lift up almond, squeeze red decorator gel onto nail bed and press almont back in place, so gel oozes out from underneath. You can also make blood on other parts of the fingers.
