How are contests decided?
There are two ways contest judging can be decided: contest creator decided or community decided. The Ceehive community can vote on entries in either type of contest. When the contest is creator decided, however, the creator is not required to use the communities opinion in selecting a winner.
Entering Contests
Who can enter contests?
All you need is an valid email and a Ceehive screen name to enter a contest. Some contests are private contests and are open to registered Ceehive users who are invited to enter the contest by the contest creator.
How do I enter a contest?
Pick your favorite contest from Ceehive and click on "enter the contest" on the contest details page to create an entry. If you are not logged into Ceehive, you will be prompted to enter your login and password.
Ceehive provides a simple and flexible contest entry page where you can enter a title, description and any images you want to add to your entry. Ceehive provides a live preview of your entry on the same page. Click the submit button once you have finalized your entry. You can typically create more than one entry per contest unless the contest rules states otherwise.
Critiquing Entries
When can I critique entries?
When the contest is "open for judging". The judging periods are noted on the contest details page.
Anyone can critique an entry; however, there are a couple of restrictions.
Some contests require an invitation to participate in judging.
You can not critique your own entry.
Can I critique my own entry?
Sorry, no.
How do I critique entries?
Click on the entry from the contest or entry browsing page. If you meet the criteria for judging you will be presented a score card to the right of the entry. To critique an entry, rate each category from 1-7, optionally leave a comment, and click either "Rate and Finish", or "Rate and Continue". The latter will move you to the next unrated entry.
What are rating categories?
Ceehive believes people deserve real feedback for their work. Rating categories provide a way for you to indicate your opinion about an entry based on several criteria. You should score each entry independently, and be fair. Rating fairly and often will improve your critic score.

Anyone can run a contest at Ceehive. You just need to have an active Ceehive account and have entered address information on the sign up page.

How can I edit my Hive?
On your home page is a link to edit your hive.
What is a Clog?
A clog is a Creative Log. Similar to a Blog, it is a place to put your creative stuff, or write about anything.
What is a Featured Hive?
When someone does something really cool on the site, Ceehive may feature that person's hive. You can get featured by winning several contests, creating an entry or a clog posting that the admin thinks is really sweet, or by giving a lot of good feedback.
User Stats
What is the leader board?
The leader board is a list of users on the Ceehive site who have the highest ratings. You can increase your rating by entering contests and scoring higher than other contestants with higher ratings. Of course your rating can drop by losing to contestants with a lower score. Note that only your best entry will be used for comparison, so enter lots.
What is a rating?
This rating is similar to the chess ratings. It is called an ELO rating. You improve it by having your best entry rated better than the best entry from other players who are rated better than you. You lose points by losing to players worse than you. In any given contest, you are competing with the other contestants best entries only. Ratings are calculated both overall and by tag when a contest closes.
What is the "rating change" stat?
This is how much the user's rating has changed as a result of the last contest in which you competed. If you are looking at a specific tag's stats, it is the change resulting from the last contest that finished with that tag.
What is the "# of scored entries" stat?
The number of entries the user made that are being considered.
What is the "# of score cards" stat?
The number of score cards the user submitted that are being considered to calculate your critics score
What is the "average rating" stat?
Of the entries submitted, this is the average rating a user received.
What is a critic score?
Critic score is calculated by giving you points every time you rate close to the average rating. It doesn't have to be real close, but the closer you are, the better you do.
This is how we keep people honest. If you rate way off of the average, your score can go down. For example if the average entry rating is a 6 and you give it a 1, your score can go down.
What is the "average score given stat"?
The average weighted score a user gave for all entries.
What are the "1s" through "7s" stats?
This is the number of times a user gave each score over all of the score cards.
